At Hop, we never want cost to be the reason you count yourself out before you’ve even explored what’s possible. That’s why we work hard to keep our programs affordable and help you find every extra bit of support we can, from Hop scholarships and university funding to outside grants, creative ways to save and practical tools to help you plan ahead.
Studying abroad is a big leap. Our job is to help make that leap feel a little more possible.
Hop Scholarship
Students participating in any Hop semester program are welcome to apply for a Hop Scholarship through their Hopscotch portal.
Awards typically range from $500–$1,500 and are based on financial need, academic achievement, personal background and the potential impact of studying abroad.
HOW TO APPLY
Apply in your Hopscotch. Choose two application prompts and submit responses of at least 350 words each. Select the questions that best help us understand your story, goals and why studying abroad matters to you.
Spring programs: Apply by October 1
Fall programs: Apply by April 1
Partner Scholarship
Students attending one of Hop’s Partner Institutions automatically receive a $1,000 scholarship toward any Hop semester program.

No additional application is required.
Partner Scholarship recipients may also apply for a Hop Scholarship, and both awards can be applied toward your total program cost.

Hop scholarships can often be combined with financial aid and outside scholarships. Be sure to check with your university's study abroad office, financial aid office and academic department for scholarships that may only be available to students at your institution.

The program fee doesn't always tell the full story. Compare the total cost of studying abroad, including housing, flights, meals, visas, transportation and other expenses.
A few ways to stretch your budget:

Start planning early. More time means more opportunities to save and apply for scholarships.

Apply for everything. Several smaller awards can add up quickly.

Check what financial aid travels with you. Existing grants and scholarships may apply abroad.

Consider lower-cost destinations. Your money can go much further in some cities and countries.

Look at what's included. Housing, insurance, excursions, transportation and meals all have real value.

Be smart about housing and meals. Shared housing and access to a kitchen can significantly reduce costs.

Compare the real cost per week. A longer semester may offer better value than a shorter program.

Save toward a specific goal. Even $25–$50 per week can become a meaningful contribution over time.

Can I use outside scholarships or financial aid too?
In many cases, yes. Outside scholarships, grants and financial aid may be used alongside Hop funding, depending on the requirements of each award and your home institution.
