the rundown
You are in one of the world’s busiest cities, but your daily life doesn’t include battling tourists. Your “commute” to school is a two minute walk and when you aren’t chilling on the campus green, you are attending class in funky repurposed spaces. Your campus is surrounded by music studios, street art, cafes and vinyl record shops. And when it’s time to go explore, all of London’s hot spots and tourist icons are less than 15 minutes away by public transport. It’s a touch raw, it’s definitely edgy and it’s very real. Hop in!

your academic journey
Academically, Goldsmiths offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees across 20 departments, with particular strengths in practice-based and interdisciplinary programs. You can pursue areas like fine art, computing, politics, psychology, design, and music, often with a creative or critical lens that encourages new ways of thinking. Programs in cultural studies, anthropology, and media production sit alongside newer offerings such as entrepreneurship for the creative industries and socially engaged design. Many courses emphasize project-based learning and are designed to connect with London’s cultural and professional landscape, giving you the opportunity to apply your studies in real-world contexts.
Goldsmiths, University of London is a long-established institution with a strong reputation in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. Founded in 1891 and incorporated into the University of London in 1904, it occupies a compact, walkable campus in New Cross, South East London. The university has a distinctive academic character shaped by its history as a center for teacher training and technical education, and its later growth into creative and cultural disciplines. Today, Goldsmiths enrolls around 10,000 students, with a student body that is internationally diverse. Several of its departments, including Art & Design, Media and Communications, and Anthropology, are consistently ranked highly in national and subject-specific rankings.

your abode
Loring Hall is Goldsmiths’ main on-campus housing in New Cross—just steps from class and a short walk to New Cross Gate Station for easy access to central London. It’s home to a vibrant mix of undergraduate, postgraduate, and study abroad students from all over the world. Rooms are single occupancy, each with a private bathroom, and grouped in small shared flats—like mini apartments—with four to six students sharing a fully equipped kitchen. You’ll have free Wi-Fi, access to on-site laundry, outdoor bike storage, and 24/7 security staff based right at Loring. It’s a social but comfortable setup with a lively campus feel right outside your door.

local vibes
New Cross is London with raw energy and real community. It’s fast, diverse, and a little rough around the edges—in the best way. Just 10 minutes from central London, this South East pocket has long been home to artists and students, but it’s also seeing an influx of young professionals drawn by its affordability and easy access to all of London. With Goldsmiths University at the center, creativity is part of the neighborhood’s DNA. You’ll find street food next to street art, indie coffee spots and live music spilling out of local pubs. From morning walks to Telegraph Hill to late nights in a buzzing music venue, New Cross gives you a side of London that’s unfiltered, unexpected, and totally real.
