This course will address learning in diverse contexts through an applied learning (or WIL) experiences. In this elective course, students will travel as part of an Outbound Mobility Experience (Study Tour) to visit key sites relevant to developing an understanding of applied learning in an a-typical context. Students will engage in Work Integrated Learning in these situations. Students will develop skills in cultural awareness before they visit the site and will reflect on the growth or otherwise of these understandings when they return. Students will develop an understanding of community cooperation in successful learning. For School of Education students, it will directly address the ACARA Australian Curriculum General Capability of Intercultural Understanding and the Sustainability perspective of the Australian curriculum.

This course offers a comprehensive examination of the key principles and practices essential for analysing athletic performance in sport. Students will learn how to conduct detailed needs analyses, design and implement effective testing protocols, and administer reliable and valid assessment practices. Through practical, hands-on experience students will develop the skills to create evidence-based and data-informed strategies that enhance performance across all levels of sport, from recreational to elite. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking, scientific reasoning, and the application of evidence-based practices to real-world sporting contexts.

This course will provide students with foundational knowledge of Aboriginal ways of knowing, being and doing, past and present. Through an exploration of Blak perspectives and knowledges, students will learn about Aboriginal resistance to the ongoing effects of colonialism and the key movements and people driving change in our communities.

Effective communication forms the cornerstone of organisational success, pivotal to today’s global landscape. This course immerses students in the fundamentals of professional communication, bridging the gap between theory and real-world application.

PSYC2300 examines psychological processes such as attention, memory, word recognition, reasoning and problem solving. Laboratory exercises are used to demonstrate these basic psychological processes. Being able to communicate effectively in a range of contexts is a vital life skill; it is fundamental to how you learn, how you work and live with others and how you can express your views when it comes to those things that matter to you. It’s also a set of skills that employers are often looking for in their staff. In this course you will develop your ability to speak and listen effectively in a range of public and interpersonal contexts. You will learn how to deliver effective presentations, express yourself in formal and informal settings, and use your voice and your body to communicate clearly. You will embark on a process of finding your voice, reflecting on the ways you do already talk about the things that matter to you and considering how you want to develop your voice to be an engaged citizen. This is a practical class that will involve speaking in a range of contexts. It is intended for students from all disciplinary backgrounds. It would be particularly valuable for students who would like additional support to participate in seminars and tutorials and who may feel unsure about giving presentations in the course of their studies and work.
