The course comprehensively explores issues related to international regulatory and institutional framework for the protection of intellectual property rights. Particular attention is given to the intersection of human rights (right to health, free expression, privacy, etc.) and intellectual property

The course "International Security" introduces students of International Relations to the more specialized sub-field of Security Studies. Towards this end, the course provides students with an introduction to some of the most pressing security challenges characterizing the contemporary security environment, key concepts, as well as central in the field of Security Studies. The problem of insecurity, and the need for states to ensure their security in an anarchic environment, is one of the most fundamental challenges states face and it is one of the most fundamental and durable features of international politics. As such, considerations of national and international security are at the very heart of the study of world politics, and the quest for security commands attention both as a matter of research and policy. Against this background, the course aims to enable students to navigate current debates about international security. It does so by, first, introducing some of the most pressing security challenges characterizing the contemporary security environment and, second, by equipping students with the analytical tools to critically engage with these security challenges and with wider debates about security policy.

This course gives an in-depth overview about the classical and contemporary theory of international trade, theory of trade policy, and their applications.

The course explains the effects of technological developments on the market and related regulation options.

Depending on the sources, 50-100 billion smart and networked connected devices are expected to be in use by the end of 2030. Due to recent massive price decreases in connectivity technology and availability of wireless microcontrollers, sensors, and actors, this area has potential for massive economic opportunity and disruption. This is the rise of the Internet of Things. In this class, we will further investigate what the Internet of Things entails and its driving forces and impact. We will experience this hands-on by building and inventing new devices. We will also learn how to integrate and network these devices into systems. System design will be a significant part of this class. As this design is a difficult process, we will look at the current machine-to-machine communication technologies as well as frameworks and framework development. We will also cover and try to forecast economic opportunities in this domain. We will learn to critically reflect, assess, and employ the solutions available to develop our own creative solutions. In our practical labs, we will look both at small DIY solutions which could be employed and enrich our direct environment, but also discuss potential industrial applications and impact. All in-class work including failures and successes will be recorded in a personal portfolio, which may serve as a reference for future job applications and will be the main element of assessment. The class covers the following technologies/technology stacks: ESP8266/ESP32 development, Arduino, Communication protocols (RS232, I2C, SPI, MQTT, HTTPS), NodeRED, IoT, IoTempower.

Students design individual courses in collaboration with their supervisors, based on the topics of their master's thesis or master's project, as well as on other professional needs and interests. The course may consist of one or several of the following components: ethnographic fieldwork (including planning, conducting and documentation of fieldwork); research administration (e.g. the organisation of conferences and seminars) or cultural management (e.g. the organisation of cultural events); assisting academic teaching; a project in applied anthropology (e.g. applied projects in collaboration with the civil society, communities or businesses); internship in a museum or archive; experimental design (e.g. the testing of materials, techniques, designs or products that draw on traditional techniques, designs and methods). Each component of the internship/fieldwork must be accompanied by a practice diary and report.
