The course reviews basic knowledge about theoretical and practical aspects in investigative psychology. In the course the following principles are introduced: interviewing techniques of victims and witnesses, interrogation of suspects and false confessions, identification issues, deception detection and offender profiling.

The following topics are discussed in lecture-seminar format classes: lexicology as a branch of linguistics; morphological structure of words and word-formation processes; the origin of English lexicon; the processes of borrowing and creating new words; homonymy, synonymy and antonymy; phraseology and idiomatic expressions; proverbs and sayings; regional varieties of English words; lexicology and lexicography, dictionary compilation problems. Independent work includes reading theoretical texts for seminars and compiling practical written assignments on the following topics: designing a word puzzle with neologisms, creating a short story in British and American English, analyzing a literary text (300 words) from morphological, derivational and semantic perspectives. The notion of style. A short history of English stylistics. Connotation. Stylistic morphology. Phonetic, lexical, syntactic, and graphical rhetorical devices. Stylistic colouring of lexis. Rhythm of prose.

The essence of local government and its place in public management system. Types of local government, the structure of the system of local governance and its peculiarities in different countries. Local government as a part of state. Principles and solutions of the structure of the system of administration. Subsidiarity principle, European problems. Communication between levels, the dynamics of government levels, forms of co-operation. Dilemma and mechanisms of centralisation and decentralisation. Models of local government. Indicators of autonomy of local government and ways of ensuring the autonomy. Degree of autonomy and what to do with freedom. Defferent levels of local government, its structure and parties. Politics of local government and interest groups. Local government reform

How to define a “major” literary text? How do these major texts connect to such concepts as “canon” and “tradition”? And what is so unique about Russian literary history? This course offers a broad historical overview of the Russophone cultural space followed by close reading of a selection of texts from the 17th to the 21st century. These works are not necessarily considered “major” in the traditional sense of the word, but in class we will discuss how they reflect the important events and trend in Russian history and literature.
