Dreaming of Italy for your summer abroad? Picture this: an Italian city as old as Rome and some 650 years older than Florence, yet sitting right on the azure waters of the Mediterranean. Imagine gorgeous beaches and a scenic coastline alongside archaeological treasures, narrow winding streets, baroque cathedrals and mouth watering seafood. A place dripping in history, culture and natural beauty and now available as a study abroad destination with academic courses inspired by the region's unique vibe.

your academic journey

The Rosario Gagliardi Academy of Fine Arts or MADE, was established in 1995, and is a fully accredited international institution, recognized by the Italian Ministry of Education for Universities and Research (MIUR). MADE offers full degree programs in Fine Arts, Design, Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Italian Studies. The Academy is located within Palazzo Boccadifuoco, one of the most interesting Art Nouveau buildings in Siracusa. Directly overlooking the sea, it is just a few steps away from the island of Ortigia, the historical center of the city.

  • MADE - The Rosario Gagliardi Academy of Fine Arts, founded in 1995, is an internationally accredited institution, offering full degree programs to Italian and international students. The MADE School of Arts & Sciences provides international study abroad programs in Fine Arts, Design, Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Italian Studies. MADE aims to work at the crossroads of design, art, traditional crafts, and local culture.

  • All students will begin with a Survival Italian course and then have the option to enroll in one or two classes. Courses include Italian Language, Anthropology, Migration Studies, Volcanology, and Multimedia Reflection.

    The course will include a comprehensive review of Italian grammar covered so far, with an in-depth focus on fundamental grammatical concepts. Emphasis will be placed on improving conversational skills and expanding vocabulary to enable students to express themselves effectively in everyday situations, including topics like family, friends, hobbies, interests, work, travel, and current events.

    In this course, students will refine their mastery of tenses and moods with proper agreement while delving deeper into specific grammatical structures.     Students have the option to extend their stay and elevate their experience by participating in one or two MADE Labs. These high-intensity workshops, led by world-renowned creative professionals, are designed for designers, architects, and artists eager to explore cutting-edge developments in their fields. Each MADE Lab focuses on a global theme, such as sustainability or migration, and offers a chance to “level up” skills while earning 6 ECTS credits per session. The Labs include immersive daytime workshops, evening lectures by thought leaders, visits to local towns, and participant presentations, all hosted in the historic XIX-century Academy building and venues in Ortigia, Siracusa. Past themes have included "Borderless Visions on Design, Architecture, and Visual Arts" and "The Authenti-City."

You will feel at home in the stunning and very walkable city center of Siracusa. Your Hop-arranged, fully-furnished apartment will allow you to live like a local while exploring with other students on the program. Hop housing is clean, safe and comfortable with wifi, bedding, linens and towels. Spend your free time wandering the cobblestone streets filled with inviting restaurants, great shopping, museums, galleries and cafes or relax on one of the many beaches.

Despite its allure as a tourist hotspot, Siracusa, Italy, has managed to preserve its classical heritage, including the famous archaeological park and the ancient Greek theater that still hosts performances today. The city is speckled with both ancient ruins and contemporary structures, showcasing a seamless blend of its storied past with present-day conveniences. Living in Siracusa’s heart means being part of a close-knit, lively community, where neighbors often know each other well. The proximity to local markets, cafes, restaurants, and historic sites makes daily errands and getting to class convenient and enjoyable.
