    International Human Rights Law and Debate Academy

    Although essential legal frameworks are in place, current times have brought several significant challenges to the protection of human rights both globally and in Europe. The summer school will address some of the most topical issues in this context, including but not limited to the protection of human rights in armed conflicts, the accession of the EU to the European Convention on Human Rights, the right to asylum versus national security, the human rights implications of AI systems and algorithmic decision-making, etc, while providing a space to develop and foster your critical thinking and argumentation skills through the Debate Academy.

    This course will provide students with introduction to argumentation theory, rhetoric, and with practical skills-building exercises in debate and public speaking. All of the theories discussed in the course will be connected to present-day issues, as well as to students’ personal research interests. Furthermore, through weekly assignments, the students will be required to connect the theory and practical exercises to their field of study i.e. major, thus building on their understanding and knowledge of argumentation, communication and debates in that particular discipline and/or thematic area.

    The aim of the European Studies Summer School is to help students understand the political, economic, cultural and social accomplishments and challenges of the European Union, as well as to learn about the contributing factors that led to contemporary Europe. The interdisciplinary program provides a comprehensive introduction to the political, economic and social processes as well as the characteristics of the rich cultural heritage and cultural diversity in the European Union.

Additionally, students will develop essential leadership skills, including vision creation, effective communication, time management, conflict resolution, and overcoming challenges, equipping them to become impactful leaders in a global context.

The region around Pécs is famous for its thermal baths and lakes. During your summer in Pécs, you will be able to visit the beautiful Siklós Spa, and go kayaking on Lake Orfű.
