    The aim of the course is to give an overview of European Union law, thereby creating the basis for students to understand the place of EU law in the system of international law and the ability to analyse current questions regarding EU law. The course will address the following issues: the foundational treaties of the EU and the system of EU institutions, legislative process, free movement of goods, persons, services and capital, EU citizenship, competition law, equal treatment, external relations, law enforcement methods and the enforcement of EU law.

    European and Transnational Criminal Law and Procedure

    The course covers the sources, principles and subjects of criminal procedure, procedural actions, time limits, commencement and termination of criminal proceedings pre-trial procedure, court procedure, criminal procedural remedies. The student will get an overview of the system of general part and special part of the Criminal Law, interpretation of provisions and methodology of solving cases. The course will also discuss transnational crimes and the mechanisms, by which States cooperate with each other and with international institutions in order to enforce their national criminal law. Topics discussed include: human trafficking, money laundering, trafficking in illegal items (drugs, weapons, antiquities, flora and fauna, body parts), and other transnational crimes. Also discussed are the main aspects of EU criminal law including: the history and institutions of EU criminal law (including the evolution of the third pillar and its relationship with EC law); harmonization in criminal law and procedure (with emphasis on competence questions); mutual recognition in criminal matters (including the operation of the European Arrest Warrant) and accompanying measures; action by EU bodies facilitating police and judicial co-operation in criminal matters (such as Europol, Eurojust and OLAF); the collection and exchange of personal data, in particular via EU databases and co-operation between law enforcement authorities; and the external dimension of EU action in criminal matters, including EU-US counter-terrorism co-operation.

Different outdoor activities: jogging, walking, nordic-walking, if possible, some other activities like cycling, disc-golf, orienteering etc. and a short description, basic technical aspects, suitability as health sports.

After the students have required basic knowledge about the subject they should be enabled to relate the historic framework to the current state of the art and identify the main tendencies of the future. This introduction course finally also describes and analyses the common points and differences between American and the European cinema. The first part of the course Film History 1 covers the development of narrative films from 1895 until the 1960s.

  • To be eligible for a Hop Education Abroad program, students must be currently enrolled at a degree-granting college or university, have completed at least one year of their undergraduate studies prior to departure, and be in good academic standing at their home institution.

    We do not have a set GPA requirement to participate in our programs—we believe in making global experiences as accessible as possible. However, some of our international university partners or your home institution may set their own academic eligibility criteria. 

    Tallinn University requires good academic standing and approval from your home institution. There is no minimum GPA.
